Happy Independence Day!

No, I haven't done that, but I applaud the men who did for their courage and bravery.

Anyway.....

We don't celebrate the date, we celebrate the event which occurred on the date.

I know I don't have to tell this to the people who stop by here, as we also say "Merry Christmas", and not "Happy Holidays". I think we lost something when people started  celebrating the date, and not the reason. To most, it's just another day off work or school, and a reason to stuff yourself with food and drink, and that's sad.

And I think it's a major part of what happened to get us into the condition we are now.

Enjoy the date, but please, remember the reason.

  1. Happy Independence Day to y'all. We finally had some Monsoon showers this afternoon. Gave the desert a badly needed soaking. There are still some flash flood warnings around the state but we're OK here.

    1. Same to you and Damsel! We've been getting sprinkles and the occasional .03" of rain, but we need much more.

    2. I've been asking the good Lord to send some of our rain your way!

And Happy Independence Day to you all! Be safe and God bless.

Thank Thomas Jefferson for such eloquent words. But it all boils down to "Bugger Off King George III".

    1. TLG (grandson) came by about noon, and we played for a while, then he napped while I played radio (got 6 of the 13 colonies!), then we went around the cul-de-sac on his tricycle saying hello to neighbors while the wife was reading, then we had pizza and watched the Lego Batman Movie (very clever dialog, btw), then I went and picked up pizza, and we continued the merryment until bath time, then bedtime.

Whew.....a 4-year old can really go when he's on full afterburner!

    2. I know about that "afterburner" effect. Thankfully, my youngest grandsons who live close by are 8 and (nearly) 10. They have slowed down in some ways and in others they haven't.

    3. Yeah, when he takes off, you'd better be ready. He tires my wife out in about two hours, and she sits down for a while, and it's my turn. Then it's usually nap time, and when he wakes up, it's rinse-and-repeat again!

Keep it civil, please....

Gloomy, Gritty, Grey Day

At 1700 local it's as described in the headline; 30*F, 88% RH, completely overcast, snowing like crazy (small flakes, but lots of them)...
