Saw this guy orbiting around today.
The tail number indicates it's an RC-135 "Rivet Joint" aircraft.
Getting in some practice, I guess.....Admiral Yamamoto infamously said "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a man with a rifle behind every blade of grass."
And so it should be, a nation of riflemen....

Getting in some practice, I guess.....Been working on this post since right after Thanksgiving. I'm making very good progress on the Fisher, and will most likely power it up...
Hope his flight level was high. Turbulance.
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the two graphs under the flight path trace, you can see he was 30k+.
DeleteI thought the airspeed trace was very "interesting"....
That was the last type of plane I worked with in the Air Force.
ReplyDeleteI worked on some "other" aircraft based on the 707. Nice planes.
DeleteDon't ask...LOL
ReplyDeleteI've seen other aircraft in that same area doing the same thing, so I won't ask....
DeleteHmmmm. Obviously nothing to see here, not that I'd know it if there was, which there probably is .
ReplyDeleteThere's not much in that part of Idaho, either. Nearest big city is Boise, and then a small place named "Nampa".
DeleteOkay, now I know what that aircraft is. Maybe. Twice this past week I've seen one fly over my house in the north suburbs of Pittsburgh. I was used to seeing KC-135, C-130(now replaced by the C-17) and various private and commercial aircraft. This latest one has been a mystery to me. The thing is that it doesn't have any markings on the tail or fuselage. At least on the right side. The flight path takes it east to west and then it turns south, so I've never seen the left side from my vantage point. Maybe it has something on that side.....
ReplyDeleteThey're usually painted symmetrically. It might be painted with the Low Visibility markings, which blend into the grey at a distance.
DeleteThanks drjim. I'll have to keep the binocs handy when I'm outside....
DeleteAirspeed could be practice for in air refueling? I know that there are some serious mis-matches between aircraft capabilities that can make refueling "difficult".
ReplyDeleten
Or just slowing for the hard turns?
Deleten
Yeah, didn't think of slowing for the turns.
DeleteIt's a "707-type" aircraft, so it shouldn't have any speed issues with AAR.
