Relatives In Town - Light Posting Ahead For A Few Days

My wife's granddaughter and her boyfriend came in today for a few days. We haven't seen them in almost a year, and of course, Pebbles The Wonder Dog went absolutely bonkers when she saw them. They're good kids; she's 21-ish and works at Target, and he's 28-ish and is a substitute grade school teacher for LAUSD and LBUSD in SoCal. They both want to get outta the Lost Angeleez area, but aren't sure where they'd like to live.

So, another trip down to DIA or DEN, or whatever, and back. I finally have it burned into my WETROM where to park (top level) in the parking structure, and what aisles to look for (J and K are good) so I can hop out of the car, and head straight to the baggage claim area to meet my visitors. And it only took SIX freaking trips there to get it through my thick skull where to park! The only airports I knew pretty well up to now were LAX, LGB, and ORD. Now I get to add another one to the list.

And even though there weren't any accidents, the traffic was c r a w l i n g along at 0 to 25MPH for large stretches.

Amazingly, it was clear sailing through the "Crossroads" area, and the Rte 34 interchange. Just lots of people out on I-25, in no particular hurry, exercising very poor lane discipline, and slowing everybody else down.

Left at 1245 and got back at 1600, so including a 20 minute stop to pick up the passengers, I averaged something like 43MPH.

Not sure what we're going to do, but for 'young people' stuff they can hang with the son and DIL, while the wimmenfolk have some serious shopping planned.

Back in a few.....

  1. Have fun. Take no prisoners. I know that Pebbles-the-Wonderdog will keep the crew in line.

  2. You know the old Guy Clark song? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sa7EkXpy8jE. La Freeway?

  3. Only took a decade to get the I-25 part of "Crossroads" somewhat finished. Of course, they are still screwing around with the actual Crossroads under I-25.

    1. 10 years? Yow....I remember the first time we drove out here 6 or so years ago, and it was under construction back then.

It must rank up there with the 287 as one of Colorado's Longest Running Road Projects....

    2. May have exaggerated the decade part. 287 will never be fixed IMO. Colorado traffic hell must include rush hour on 287 from US 36 to I-70.

    3. I agree. For all the time and money spent on the 287, they sure didn't handle the interchange between N. Taft Hill and N. Shields where it splits and heads North.

      WTF were they thinking?

I had to map out US 36 and 287. I suspect any route leading through Metro Denver is a b1tch, depending on time-of-day. It's been congested every time I've been through there, and a couple of spots reminded me of L.A. and Vegas, the way the road split and mixed.

And don't get met started on the terminal at DEN.....

    4. Think the terminal is bad? Try air freight. Among other things, not one accessible public restroom.

    5. Hope I never have to go to he freight terminal!

They ever gonna fix Pena Bl where it enters the airport? Pretty cracked and awful wavy....

    6. If you use E470 (toll road) Denver PD sits on the cloverleafs to Pena. Speed limit is 50mph.

    7. Yup, seen them a few times.

  4. Have fun and God bless all.
Anywhere is better than Kalifornia. I could see living in Colorado. All depends on their interests, I guess.

    1. As I get older I tend to look back at my time in Kalifornia as "Act II" of my life. It had it's good points, and I never would have had the amazing career I did if I would have stayed in Illinois.

But the last 10 years or so was really grinding me down. The congestion, the traffic, the crowding, the prices, the taxes, the oppressiveness I was feeling. Just wasn't worth it any longer, so when I saw a new door opening, I grabbed my wife and pushed her towards it, and she made it possible for both of us to make our Calexit.

  5. I hope you have a good time and a good visit. The only visitors I get here are my own kids, and they entertain themselves, so it's ok.

    1. Don't usually have much here in town, but I-25 between here and Denver resembles the world-famous "405" at times.

  7. Have fun with the kids and good luck to their Calexit. I'd suggest Texas but it's ridiculously hot...

  8. He has relatives somewhere in the DFW area, and they both have relatives in Washington state, so they have 'support' in those two states.

Keep it civil, please....

Gloomy, Gritty, Grey Day

At 1700 local it's as described in the headline; 30*F, 88% RH, completely overcast, snowing like crazy (small flakes, but lots of them)...
