Battleship Iowa NI6BB to be On Air to Commemorate D-Day

NI6BB will be operating from 0900 to 1700 PDST in commemoration of D-Day.

Look for us in frequencies ending in "61" on 40 Meters through 10 Meters.

I won't be able to be there this year because we *finally* have a handyman guy showing up to do to needed repairs to get the house ready for sale.

And I can't be there this Wednesday either, as I have (oh, joy...) a root canal scheduled.

  1. I saw the New Jersey firing on the Shouf mountains in 1983. Not a sight I'll ever forget.

    1. I know my Dad saw the Iowa in action, as she was in the same areas of the South Pacific at the same time he was there. And he told me stories of hearing and seeing the big ships slugging away at night. He said it was just like a big thunderstorm out on the horizon. You'd see the flashes light up the sky, and then later the sound would come rolling in just like thunder.

There's a hand drawn and hand painted map in the wardroom on the Iowa, and the first time I saw it I was taken back to my childhood. All the names of the places in the South Pacific were the same names he used when he told me the stories, and not the current names we know those countries as.

It really hit me that I was looking at something made during that time frame, and I'll never forget it....

The Fisher Saga Continues - Act III -

Been working on this post since right after Thanksgiving. I'm making very good progress on the Fisher, and will most likely power it up...
