Damage Estimate: $8300 Car Value:$6000

Looks like we're in the market for a replacement car..

We went and looked at Hyundai Elantras tonight, and the wife thought they were very nice.

We'll also be looking at the Kia Forte, as these two cars are about the same size and in the price class we're comfortable with.

Everything I read today about the current version of the Nissan Sentra convinced me to NOT even look at them.

The closest Nissan model would be the Altima, and it's a minimum of $2000 over the other two.

Same with the Ford Fusion, and I absolutely, positively, will NEVER step foot into a Government Motors dealership.

  1. I hope you find something a) to your liking, and b) in your price range.

  2. I hope you find something that meets Rev. Paul's criteria. I had the 94 Mustang rebuilt after being totaled. Cost me about the same as you. Your mileage may vary, check local store for details =)

  3. Another option, depending on price range, my daughter LOVES her VW Jetta.

  4. Ford did not take any Government money....

  5. I know they didn't, but Ford doesn't have any vehicles my wife likes that are in our price class.

To me, "Government Motors" is GM or Chrysler, NOT Ford.

I like Fords, and if I were in the market for a new car, I'd buy a Mustang in a heartbeat.

We have to really watch our money on this, as she just found out she's getting cut back from 12 month employment to 9-1/2 month employment at the end of this school year.

  6. Hi Dr Jim,

I have a Kia Forte and am pretty happy with it, the only thing to be careful of, is that being 6'2'', the driver's seat is decidedly cramped.

  7. We went out last night to a place in Commerce, and bought a car.

They had the best price by about $250 (they don't "deal" much on Elantras because they're hot right now), got us through all the paperwork in about 20 minutes (gotta be a record for a dealer!), and will DELIVER the car to us here at home, and spend about 30 minutes going over it all with us.

One of the dealers we went to was rude (GOOD way to lose a sale), another one wanted full list price ( ! ), and then this guy from Commerce called.

Besides treating us very well, he was another old "gearhead" like me, and my wife felt very comfortable talking to him.

The car should be here Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on how quickly they can do the predelivery and get it down here.
