All Put Up For Her "Long Winter's Nap"....

Today was just gorgeous. Sunny, little wind, and FIFTY DEGREES! It was a painful decision to make, but instead of taking her out, I spent the day cleaning things up, moving things around, sweeping out the garage, and getting her up on stands, and covered.

"SWEEPERS, SWEEPERS, MAN YOUR BROOMS!"

Shhhhh.....She's sleeping....

And as a bonus, I was able to give SLW another 12" of room where she parks her car. Still have some things to pick up and organize, but the bulk of Winter Prep in the garage is finished. It also gives me more room to maneuver the snowblower in and out of it's parking spot.

And I split a bunch more wood, and played around with putting an edge on the Harbor Freight hand axe I've had for quite a few years. The as-supplied edge wasn't very good on it, but I didn't know much about sharpening anything other than a pocket of kitchen knife, and I was mediocre at even doing that. Anywhoo......I examined my Estwing "Camp Axe" to see what a good edge looked like, read a bit, and went at it. I used an 80-grit flap wheel in my Dremel to even things out, then the 80-grit belt for my Work Sharp sharpener. I then switched to the 220-grit, and finished with an Extra Fine 6000-grit honing belt.

Came out OK, and works WAY better than it did. I'm still a Novice at sharpening things, but I'm getting the hang of it.

Hope you all had a Blessed Sunday, and have a safe week!

  1. The Supra is a splendid beast.

    1. She's not fast (top speed ~125) and not quick (0-60 ~8sec), but she sticks like glue to the road, goes where she's pointed immediately, recovers gracefully if you overcook it, and has Really Good Brakes. And as you note, she's rather attractive.

  2. Nice job on the Supra and the axe.

We had crap weather today here. Fog and drizzle most of the day. I thought the desert would be a dry heat. Ha!

    1. Thanks, Bob! We have dry cold here, and it's similar to "dry heat"....it's still damn hot/cold! What we're your temps today?

    2. Wickenburg High 64 and Low 49. The drizzle is gone this evening and we're expecting fair and warmer tomorrow.

  3. No shortage of Youtube videos on how to sharpen things....some of them are even accurate.

    1. I've watched a bunch of them. I fully understand the process, but until I put Hands-On it, and get a feel for it, it's all academic.

  4. The Supra is one a two or three Toyota vehicles I would like to own. Otherwise, not a Toyota fan.

    1. Toyota does some things very well, and other things not so much. Mechanical reliability is superb, even with minimum maintenance. The fit and finish on this one could have been better as-built, as I'm seeing a lot of little "That Doesn't Look Quite Right" things that have popped up over the years, and most ANY Japanese car from the 80's had some interior materials that didn't hold up very well over the years. But it's a cool car, handles very well, has "adequate power and sufficient torque", and I always wanted one, from the first year this version came out.

    1. Yeah....Today was slightly warmer, but I had to get it off the ground this winter. Now I can check some things that were hard to look at because the car is soooo looooow.
