Bye Bye, Sea Launch!

I'd heard this was "In Work" a couple of months ago. There was a lot of ITAR controlled equipment on the ships, and it had to be removed before USGOV would allow the ships to be permanently relocated.

This has been removed now, and negotiations are underway to finalize the departure of the two ships.

The entire article can be read here.

So Bye Bye, Sea Launch. It was a hell of a run while it lasted.....

  1. I don't see how the small sat launch business can survive without a massive shakeout. There's a lot of companies competing for the small booster business, and now the larger launch vehicles are offering ride share launches to put further pressure onto things.

  2. "Smaller, Faster, CHEAPER" was the mantra of all these little companies back when I was in the biz.

Some panned out, some didn't, and then SpaceX comes along, and totally upsets the apple cart.

I don't have a clue what's going to happen, but it'll be interesting to see who's still around in five years or so.

As to Sea Launch, I'm doubtful they'll ever launch again.

    1. My time there was the most rewarding of any job I've ever had. It could be real bust-your-chops work at times, and many long hours (days, sometimes), on-console or running equipment, but we got 'er done.

Keep it civil, please....

Gloomy, Gritty, Grey Day

At 1700 local it's as described in the headline; 30*F, 88% RH, completely overcast, snowing like crazy (small flakes, but lots of them)...
