Holy Smokes....What A Light Show!

Ye gads is there a lot of lightning tonight. From the NWS weather radar, it looks like the Greeley area is getting clobbered. As Well Seasoned Fool has told me many times, "Most of the really bad weather stays East of the I-25", and while the weather may start turning bad slightly West of I-25, it builds up really fast as it moves Eastward.

I haven't heard any thunder in a while, but wow....the sky gets lit up every 5 seconds, almost fast enough that the glow from the previous stroke hasn't completely faded.

  1. I kinda sorta miss lightning, and T-storms in general. Not the damage they may cause, mind, but the display.

    1. Yeah, they're fun to observe, but not so much if you're in a bad one.

I used to love watching them roll in from the West when I was but a wee sprout back in Illinois.

  2. Mid afternoon I was in Fort Morgan. The line of towering cumulus along the rain shadow line was as big as I've seen. Earlier this week Otis got baseball sized hail. Last night the rain hit Greeley hard around 2130. Drove me off my balcony.

All part of the monsoon season. Never fear, snow is on the way. Last week it snowed on Monarch Pass.

    1. I would have liked to have seen that. I've seen staggering thunderheads to the East of us, and a few years ago when we were here visiting the Homestead up on Whalerock in Rist Canyon I got to see some really BIG stuff out over the plains.

And as usual, you got soaked, and all we got was the light show. Back to every-other-day watering to try and get the yard to come back.

  3. Last September, driving up 287 in SE Colorado, we watched an hour and a half light show over SW Colorado. And 'someplace' out there took a beating! Literally multiple strikes for over an hour.

    1. I'd forgotten what it was like to live in an area with REAL weather and all four seasons.

I much prefer it to Kali, even without the political aspects.

  4. I LOVE thunderstorms and go out on the porch to watch them as the house shakes likes a bunker in the battle of Kursk.

    1. We get the lightning displays and the thunder, but sadly we only get any rain once in a while.

It's a lot drier here than I expected!

  5. I love thunderstorms! We have a couple big ones this summer. In Cali they were a big concern as they were often dry lightening storms, here we get gully washers with them. Loving the seasons here, not missing the long dry HOT of N Cali.

Keep it civil, please....

Gloomy, Gritty, Grey Day

At 1700 local it's as described in the headline; 30*F, 88% RH, completely overcast, snowing like crazy (small flakes, but lots of them)...
