Storm Arrival Update

No, I'm not gonna get all ZOMG!! SNOWMAGEDDON!!! on you. I had enough of "StormWatch2017" in Lost Angeleez.

It's 0030 here, and it's been drizzling for a couple of hours.

NWS reports:

Wednesday
Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 7am. The snow could be heavy at times. Widespread blowing snow, mainly before 4pm. Temperature falling to around 30 by 5pm. Very windy, with a north northwest wind 9 to 19 mph increasing to 27 to 37 mph. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Wednesday Night
Snow, mainly before 11pm. Areas of blowing snow. Low around 22. Very windy, with a north northwest wind 32 to 37 mph decreasing to 25 to 30 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

So it looks like we have a serious (to me, anyway) storm coming in. From the forecast, this will be the first real winter storm that we've had since we moved here. And my wife is back in SoCal, where it's expected to be sunny and in the mid 70's.

Updates to follow!

  1. Yesterday the snow came down in AZ faster than I could shovel it. Today, we'll see, but I started the evening with shoveled driveways (I have two). The forecast here is for around 12 inches, which is far short of the thirty or so inches we received with the last one.

Good luck and keep us posted.

    1. 12" is what we historically get for the entire month of March.

I remember getting 12"~14" back in Illinois, and with wind and drifting, it would shut everything down for a couple of days.

  2. Looked across the parking lot and saw an inch of frozen rain. Turned around and went back inside.

    1. Yeah, I looked out the back door and saw the snow was layered with ice.

      Haven't seen that before here.

  3. I am technically snowed in because the highways that I would use to leave the area are all closed. It's been quite the blizzard.

    1. The NEXRAD weather radar from your area looks like it's passed through as of 1800UTC.

  5. Knock on wood, power is still up in the campground, but the furnace vents are blocked so it's shut off. And the drift has piled up outside the main door so heavily I cannot open it. Which means either neighbor will have to clear it, or I'll have to use emergency exit window and drop to the ground.
Wind is blowing from the west, which is unusual here...
    Stay safe and warm!
