Dragged out my big Toshiba laptop to get ready for the trip. Spent about 45 minutes last night updating Windows and all the other "security" utilities I run on it.
The former Radio Room is now empty. All the equipment is packed away, the desks are dismantled and in the front yard, and "1-800 GOT-JUNK" is coming this afternoon to haul away many things of my past.
I made up a network diagram of our home network for the new owners. There's a "Coaxial Segment" and an "Ethernet Segment", but I'm pretty sure my nice, neat drawing might as well be done in Martian for the new owner, as he's not a "Tech Guy" at all. Perhaps it will help whoever they call if there's a problem. They only active component is the network switch; the coax splitters should last 100 years unless the house takes a lightning hit.
Oh, well....time to get my hand cart and start moving large boxes of stuff out to the front yard for the junkman......
Admiral Yamamoto infamously said "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a man with a rifle behind every blade of grass."
And so it should be, a nation of riflemen....

The Fisher Saga Continues - Act III -
Been working on this post since right after Thanksgiving. I'm making very good progress on the Fisher, and will most likely power it up...

Yawn....just more Kabuki Theater, but interesting reading, nonetheless. Read All About It Here.....

Thinking about getting some more 22LR for my little Marlin semi-auto. I already have a good stock of 22LR, but they're all Wolf and Fio...
The pain will soon be behind you.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope so!
ReplyDeleteWe're looking at three places next Monday. All of them are out near Mulberry/CO14 and I-25. It's a nice area. I'd prefer to live off Overland, up towards LaPorte, but the pickins are slim there. There's a house we love on a 15ksqft lot, but it's sited poorly, with no room for a proper garage/workshop. There's another one off Vine street, but it's about $25k over priced. It's been on and off the market for the last 6 months, and I suppose we could make an offer, but it appears the owners are in no hurry to sell it.
Can't help you with real estate - have zip knowledge. After leaving the car biz, did a lot of inspections for mortgage companies but stopped that a few years ago. Your in-laws are probably your best source.
ReplyDeleteOne piece of advice. Make absolutely certain of your water source. Inspect the water bills. To the extent you can, look to the path from a meter into the house. The area has both clay and acidic soil in places.
The daughter-in-laws Dad owns a high-end construction company, and has been a wealth of info so far.
DeleteI'm not sure I'll hire him to build the garage, but he sure knows his stuff!
So far, the places we're looking at have either "District Water" or "City Water", whatever that means.....
DeleteBest of luck to you.
ReplyDeleteLet us know how it goes.
Thanks, Phil. This laptop is going in the car with me, and the hotels we'll be staying at decent Internet, so I'll be posting.
DeleteI broke the rip down to three ~7 hour segments, so we should have a pleasant trip. He's an excellent photographer, and besides potty stops for us and the dog, there's a couple of places I'm planning to stop so he can see things.
He's never driven further East than Vegas, so I'm sure some of the scenery we'll be driving through will blow him away!
This will be my fourth drive from L.A. to Denver.
I'm glad that you are going to keep us in the loop while your on your journey. Hope you can upload some photos to post along the way as well.
ReplyDeleteI've only been to Colorado a few times, pass through family vacations, and hunting, so it should be fun to experience it as you go along.
My son has never seen Utah or Colorado, so he's in for a TREAT!
DeleteWell, you can't say you didn't 'try'... :-)
ReplyDeleteThe guy that bought the radio from me on eBay got quite a bit of stuu; three other radios, and something like TWELVE big boxes of parts.
DeleteAnd as looked at things, and his eyes lit up because he realized what it was, I felt good knowing it was going to a good home.
I hate that you had to give up some of your possessions. I know a person can't cart it all away, but it's hard. Everything has some meaning.
