Busy Two Days.....!!

Been looking at houses, and have it down to four contenders from the 12 or so we've looked at.

We have one more to look at tomorrow, and we're going back at 1700 to the last one we looked at today. Our contractor in-law is coming with us, and he'll give us a "GO-NOGO" decision on it. It needs a bunch of repairs caused by overly deferred maintenance, and we want to change a few things on it. If he tells us there are no major issues, AND we can get it for the right price, it just might be "The One".

The other three houses are knock-outs, and turn-key ready to move in to, and the one we're looking at on Thursday looks pretty good from the listing pictures.

  1. Yay, I'm happy you are doing so well with the home search. Here's hoping the one you like best passes the relative in law test.
    Pictures please!

    1. We have four in the running right now, and we're looking at #5 tomorrow, along with looking at the others again.

*IF* we can get the one we looked at (again) tonight with our contractor in-law for the right price, that's the first one we'll put an offer on.

It's priced at $425k, and our contractor says with the amount of work it needs, we should offer $350k.

Our agent will get us the "comps" tonight so we'll have a better basis for making an offer.

  2. Make sure that the garage is big enough to house all of the things you're going to put into it.

    1. They all have "oversize" (by whose definition? Not mine!) two car garages, but the one we've really got our eye on has enough room for another nice garage/workshop.

  3. That's fast progress; reminds me of our search, last year. I hope it continues.

  4. advice from a frequent flyer, take your time. look under the house, the attic, every where and go over there and sit on the porch and listen to the neighborhood sounds at night and a weekend too if you can. make sure there aren't any obnoxious dogs...or neighbors. check the taxes, water/sewer rates if applicable. good luck to ya!

    1. Our daughter-in-law's father is a contractor specializing in high-end homes, remodels, and renovations. We just got back from looking at a house with him, and he crawled under it, over it, and around it, and was making notes the entire time.

  5. Do you find looking for a new home as stressful as leaving the old home?

    1. I don't, but my wife does. Since it will be "Our Forever Home" she's getting a bit wonky about it.

    1. Oh, yeah. He gave me a bunch of tips on what to look for in homes in this area.

Quite a bit different than Southern California!
