Thunderbirds Fly By

Should have used a different lens.....

This was shot with my 80mm~400mm "Image Stabilized" lens. Why is it blurry? Because the lens doesn't focus as fast as my other Nikon lenses do, and a switch on the side of the lens got bumped, slowing it down even more.

And the slot man, all by himself.....

The lens was all the way back at 80mm, meaning I really should have used one of my lenses with a shorter focal length.

Oh, well....at least I got to see them.

    1. I almost couldn't believe the number of people standing outside waiting for them. Must have been 25 people in the street and cul-de-sac.

  2. Still, you got them in formation, and they're identifiable. Win-win!

    1. Yeah, they were off-course a bit, and closer to us. Otherwise they'd just be little blobs....

    2. Like seven F-16s flying by?

It was good to hear MILJETS flying again, something I haven't heard in several years.

  3. They flew to our base (Shaw) and we waited along the flight line while they buzzed at tree top. We thought "There should be one more?" and he came in from the other direction with afterburners on.
    Shook us up. Mission accomplished.

    1. Yep, gotta watch out for the soloist! They like doing that stuff....

  4. That is way cool.

I've found that the manual zoom and focus settings on my modern camera aren't very good for things like the flyby.

    1. I've used this lens before at airshows, and it worked very well. Somehow I bumped one of the controls on it, which limited the range of focus it can do.

Keep it civil, please....

Gloomy, Gritty, Grey Day

At 1700 local it's as described in the headline; 30*F, 88% RH, completely overcast, snowing like crazy (small flakes, but lots of them)...
