Admiral Yamamoto infamously said "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a man with a rifle behind every blade of grass."
And so it should be, a nation of riflemen....
God Speed, General Yeager.
Sic transit gloria mundi.
Yes it does, Ed.
General Yeager was a frequent guest at my neighbor's house when I lived in Corona, CA. I always managed to wrangle an invitation to the BBQ when he was there. A truly great, humble, man with a very sharp wit and sense of humor. You can't remake men like that. It's like the Library of Alexandria burning when he passed.
I'm sure he was quite interesting to talk to. I never met him, but I've met and worked with other Test Pilots, and met Bob Hoover a couple of times at airshows.Test Pilots remind a lot of Race Drivers. Extremely skilled, very smart, and with a good level of ice water in their veins.
Always considered him the epitome of what you want in a military leader. Who will fill his shoes?
He was quite a man, unlike today's man-bun wearing soy-boys.His shoes can never be filled, and should on display at the Edwards Flight Test Museum.
May he rest in peace.
Keep it civil, please....
