DeleteGeneral Yeager was a frequent guest at my neighbor's house when I lived in Corona, CA. I always managed to wrangle an invitation to the BBQ when he was there. A truly great, humble, man with a very sharp wit and sense of humor. You can't remake men like that. It's like the Library of Alexandria burning when he passed.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he was quite interesting to talk to. I never met him, but I've met and worked with other Test Pilots, and met Bob Hoover a couple of times at airshows.
DeleteTest Pilots remind a lot of Race Drivers. Extremely skilled, very smart, and with a good level of ice water in their veins.
Always considered him the epitome of what you want in a military leader. Who will fill his shoes?

DeleteHis shoes can never be filled, and should on display at the Edwards Flight Test Museum.
