Eight Screws and a Plate

Huh....didn't realize that could describe a weekend in Vegas.....

SLW got home from surgery about 1130 this morning, rather woozy and doozy, and with another bottle of Percocet. They gave her a nerve block for the surgery, and some "Twilight Sleep" stuff so she'd be out for the procedure, which only took a couple of hours.

And they gave her this lovely parting gift to remember her experience by.

They told her during the consultation last week she'd need "A couple of screws and a plate", but, uh....looks like more than just "a couple" to me. I count eight, but I'm not an Orthopedic guy.

So I'm hustling around at her beck and call, and she's complaining that she can't feel any of her arm, so it flops around, and can fall out of the sling if she isn't careful.

Probably be busy the next couple of days.....

  3. Glad she's home and under good care. Wish her a quick and hopefully lesser pained recovery.

    1. The nerve block wore off about an hour ago, and she said now she understands why they recommended starting the pain killers as soon as she got home so she could "get ahead of" the pain, and have the drugs in her system before the blocker wore off.

    1. She follows Doctor's Orders 100%, so unless some other issue pops up, she should be fine in a couple of days.

    1. Thanks, NFO. She had a really BAD night. The Percocet makes her nauseated, so she can't take as much as proscribed, so she (and me) was up most of the night.

  6. Prayers for SLW. And prayers for you as you have more to do now.

My late mother had something similar done for a broken foot 21 years ago when she was 71. They did not take the "hardware" out for nearly 3 months.

    1. Thanks, Bill. I don't know if they're going to take the hardware out, or leave it in.

  8. Jeez I missed this earlier, I was going to give you the heads up that you want to get ahead of the nerve block..

Wishing for a speedy and complete recovery...

(and if the perc make her nauseous, they should be able to prescribe something else, or an anti-nausea drug to go with it. NO reason to be in pain in these times. I had some work on my arm, and they gave me the anti-nausea as well. The weirdest part of the nerve block was feeling the weight of my arm tug on my body...)

  9. Had a shoulder replacement about 5 months ago. My hardware is supposed to stay in. Hopefully hers will also. Shame she has a bad reaction to the pain meds. I only had to take the RX meds for 2.5 days after being released (had to stay overnight). I hope she recovers quickly as well.

Keep it civil, please....

Gloomy, Gritty, Grey Day

At 1700 local it's as described in the headline; 30*F, 88% RH, completely overcast, snowing like crazy (small flakes, but lots of them)...
