I had a new found (to me) car chase scene I posted a few days ago, and it got me thinking....always an activity fraught with peril.
What's your favorite "car" movie?
I'm NOT a big fan of car movies loaded up with CGI, and impossible stunts, like the "The Fast and The Furious" series, and some of the stuff done in the remake of "Gone In 60 Seconds", so I won't include those.
And movies with great chase scenes, like "Bullitt", and "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior", are great movies, but aren't what I'd call "Car Movies", where the cars are a big part of the entire story.
This narrows the selections down considerably, and the few that I know about, and like, would be as follows:
"Grand Prix" starring James Garner and others
"Le Mans" starring Steve McQueen
"Rush" starring Chris Hemsworth
"Truth in 24" starring "People You've Never Heard Of"
Now there are many other movies out there that the cars play a fairly big part in, but by my narrow-minded definition, aren't quite in the same category as the 4 movies above.
Some of those are:
"Heart Like a Wheel" starring Bonnie Bedelia
"Cars" by Pixar
The original "Gone In 60 Seconds"
"The Big Wheel" starring Mickey Rooney
"To Please A Lady" starring Clark Gable
And many, many more.
So which are your favorites and stinkers?
Admiral Yamamoto infamously said "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a man with a rifle behind every blade of grass."
And so it should be, a nation of riflemen....

What I've Been Up To....
Started this post on Monday, then came down with a head cold, which is now progressing South. Feeling better, but still a bit woozy...... To...

Yawn....just more Kabuki Theater, but interesting reading, nonetheless. Read All About It Here.....

Thinking about getting some more 22LR for my little Marlin semi-auto. I already have a good stock of 22LR, but they're all Wolf and Fio...
Not sure I can name a favorite car movie. I suffer from CRS syndrome -- you know what that is, right?
ReplyDeleteHere's a couple I watched recently:
Rush
1
I enjoyed the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds. Haven't seen the original. And then, from 1978, The Betsy -- I should find a copy of that and watch it again.
Geez....you must have posted this before I even finished it!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was odd, coming back, that there was all the stuff your wrote, that I didn't see the 1st time. Was just your headline -- I thought that was it! So, Blogger uploads a placeholder sort of thing, before the post is even finished? Hehe, that's the ultimate "First Post!", when I get in even before you're finished.
ReplyDeleteMickey Rooney -- and you don't even mention The Love Bug? :-)
I'll put LeMans and Grand Prix on my list.
Interesting.
ReplyDeleteI've gone to blogs by clicking on the current topic, and got the blogger equivalent of a "404" before, but never got taken to partially finished page!
Totally forgot about "The Love Bug", probably because I subconsciously tagged it a "non-car" movie.
Gumball Rally. I could watch it over and over, it's funny as hell. It is the same thing as Cannon Ball Run but it came out way earlier.
ReplyDeleteIf you have never seen this, it is a cult classic.
Bullitt of course... :-) Although Vanishing Point wasn't bad either...
ReplyDeleteSmokey and the Bandit. Laughed my butt off when it first came out. Watched it again over the holidays and laughed it off again.
ReplyDeleteD'OH!
ReplyDeleteI forgot "Vanishing Point"!
Death Race, Transporter (all 3), Rush
ReplyDeleteTucker
ReplyDeleteI need to watch the Tucker movie. I've heard of them, and recall a really good article from a while back telling a good part of the story -- of course I can't find it now.
ReplyDelete"Tucker" was a pretty good movie.
ReplyDeleteThat's another one I'll have to get.
Two lane Blacktop
ReplyDeleteAh.....another good one I forgot, but have in my collection.
ReplyDeleteI liked how Warren Oates as "GTO" changed his story throughout the movie.
Ya know, Rooney wasn't in The Love Bug. That was Buddy Hackett, who was also in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World. Hey, they're both short. Rooney just passed away.
ReplyDeleteSo, do you consider Chitty Chitty Bang Bang a car movie? And if so, is it a stinker?
I've never seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, so I can't comment on it.
ReplyDeleteThe song was enough to drive me away from it!
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry
