Our oldest dog hasn't been doing too well the last couple of days. She's almost 14 years old, went deaf about 8 months ago, has an enlarged heart and fluid buildup in her lungs, and gets small fatty tumors. She's been pretty listless the last few days, and she has a bloody mucus discharge from her nose that just started. She was pretty quiet yesterday, but as soon as I got the leash out after dinner, she perked right up, tail wagging, ears up, jumping around like a pup, and we went for a nice long walk. Well, with her it's more of a nice long SNIFF anymore, as we'll walk about 30~40 feet, and then something on the ground or in the parkway requires her attention for a a minute or two, and then off we go again.
This afternoon she was shivering, so I covered her up on the couch, and she napped. I got the leash out after dinner, and she didn't want to go, so I'm worried we might (or maybe should....it's wrong to let them suffer) have to take her on her last trip to the vet tomorrow.
Bummer.......
Admiral Yamamoto infamously said "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a man with a rifle behind every blade of grass."
And so it should be, a nation of riflemen....

Thinking about getting some more 22LR for my little Marlin semi-auto. I already have a good stock of 22LR, but they're all Wolf and Fio...
Awww, man! These things come to us whether we we want or not, or are ready. I'm sure you'll do her right, and in her own way, she'll know it.
ReplyDeleteThese times always seem to come too soon. Mine at least knew his head was in my hand, at the end. Like Jeffro said, she'll know.
ReplyDeleteAlways sad to hear. My ex (when we were together) said she could see Ilsa happily running aound the house, afterward. I never could. I know the drill, I know you'll do ass she wants. Take Care!
ReplyDeleteIt is the hardest decision to have to make. The quality of life for our dear pets. I will keep you in my prayers about what ever decision you arrive at.
ReplyDeleteYes it is time, no more suffering...God Bless
ReplyDeleteThanks, everybody. She's a lot better today. Perky, eating again, and the nosebleed stopped.
ReplyDeleteWe know the clock is definitely ticking, and have resigned ourselves to doing the right thing soon now.
Sorry to hear the story, glad to hear she's feeling better today. She's lucky to have you.
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm sorry. You know that I went through the same thing with Punkin a couple of months ago. And I really don't know what to say other than...
ReplyDeleteHell, I don't know what to say.
