Must Be Some "Big Wigs" Coming In...

As witnessed by all the air traffic just circling around...

OOPS....Scratch that. It's a WIND delay, first I've seen for DIA.

  1. Those are no fun. One summer day inbound from Fargo in a commuter twin we circled for 45 minutes in some of the worse turbulance I've been in.

    1. Yeah, been bounced around plenty during my traveling days. As you say, NOT a lot of fun.

  2. I was hoping for genuine bigwigs instead of a revelation that DIA isn't paying the weather tax.

  3. Yep, bumpy holding does NOT begin to describe it! I'm betting a lot of sick sacks got used on those airplanes!

    1. I've been lucky all the times I came and went through Denver. A bit bumpy at times, but never a delay. The wind here was mild, but you go 5~10 miles away, and it can change tremendously.

  4. I haven't been to Denver in an aircraft (government or airliner). However, I used to fly from Dallas-Fort Worth to Salt Lake City for AF Reserve duty. There could be some strong turbulence over the Front Range at times.

Looking at the Denver Airport layout, if the crosswinds are too high for those 4 main North-South runways at Denver, they have to stack 'em up to land on the 2 East-West runways.

    1. We've hit turbulence a few times on the way in and out of DIA, but I don't recall a delay because of it. Glad I hadn't shipped your rotor yet, as I found a few things I left out of the box! Repacked it yesterday, and I'll get it down to FedEx in the next day or so, weather permitting.

    2. Even airliners have crosswind limits. Of late there have been some extreme weather conditions; it just happens once and a while. Heck, it was 100° down here on the 18th.

Let me know how much I need to send.

Total snow was about 6~8", but half o0f it melted as soon as it hit, and we never had more than 3" on the ground at any one time....
