Amazing to see it come to life. One of the very few things I miss about living in SoCal was being allowed to crawl all over the ship, and see all the cool Behind The Scenes things.

ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome. "Civvies" aren't usually allowed down On Broadway, let alone into Forward Plot wher the computing equipment and the triggers for the guns are, like you saw. I'm just sorry I allowed Old_NFO to get Shanghai'd by one of our Navy vets the day he came down to see her.
Delete80 year old design and engineering mothballed for more than 3 decades...and it still functions just fine. Few things today are made as well as that era's work.

ReplyDeleteWhen she first got to LA, and was running on a generator, they didn't have enough power to do anything with the turrets. You can use hand cranks to raise/lower the guns and rotate the turret, but Good Gravy that takes a lot of grunt. Now it's all a question of scheduling since she's on Shore Power.
