The usefulness depends on where you live, and how much police/fire/other activity you have there. Some people listen only to railroads, some like tow trucks or taxis, and some like to monitor the aircraft frequencies. Out here in L.A., you can glean a lot of useful information as to what's going on by listening to the "Media" frequencies, which is what the TV and radio stations use to communicate with their crews setting up, and their traffic helicopters.
And listening to the police is always interesting, at least to me. It's amazing how much stuff never makes it on the "5 O'clock News", or into the papers. I had a friend who used to track crime statistics, and he found that 60~70% of crime that happened in low-income areas never got reported by the "News" media.drjimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05647484115197408897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4901205574058136834.post-37105452521398481362012-07-29T00:44:48.070-07:002012-07-29T00:44:48.070-07:00Hey! For the obvious reasons!

But it turned out to be more entertaining than informative. I got to hear some interesting stuff, for sure.Jeffrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06873138122305060834noreply@blogger.com
