New "Owners" Coming By Tonight

Technically, their BANK is the new owner, but we'll be nice and play along with them.

Our agent called and said they'd asked if they could come by to show their kids "Our New House", so he checked with us, and we don't have any objections.

The guy wanted to see the garage, which is packed floor-to-ceiling with boxes, and I think the gal wanted to have a closer look at the kitchen and the bedrooms.

We're investigating movers right now, and I can see the fights between the wife and myself brewing  in the distance.

She's going to scream bloody murder about all the "junk" I have in the garage, and how she's not going to pay to move it, and I'm going to insist it goes.

I've already dumped several thousand dollars worth of perfectly usable stuff, and I'm down to "If I dump it I'll have to replace it" items like antennas, antenna rotators, sections of heavy gauge mast, and a bunch of other stuff that simply isn't available any longer.

Since escrow won't be closing until the end of September, I've made the decision to leave from Las Vegas after the "Supras in Vegas" event and head for Colorado. It'll be a long drive, but I can always overnight somewhere if I have to.

Hey, I did L.A. to Fort Collins in one shot carrying two wimmens and all their stuff, so "just me" in the Supra from Vegas to FTC should be a piece of cake!

But I'm not looking forward to the Great Garage Pack And Move, at all....

  1. I don't know if that's a good idea. I gave the Mohammedans two shots at the place. Shot one was their inspection. I wasn't present. Shot two was their walk-through prior to escrow closing.

    1. Our agent said it was "OK", so we let them come by.

The "official" inspection is Thursday at 1800. I'm sure they'll find some things "wrong", they always do...

  2. Dr Jim,
I can commiserate with you on moving. My wife and I are in the process of selling our house and only moving 250 miles. I have 40 years of stuff including Ham gear, computer stuff, woodworking tools and aviation stuff.

    1. Oh, yeah....I know the feeling. I have two rolling cabs with my tools in them, a benchtop drill press, and a big bench vise to take, along with my floor jack, jack stands, and a whole lot of other stuff....

  4. My late father recommended a 5 gallon can of gas and a book of matches as the best way to move.

    1. Yeah, I've heard 5 gallons of gas and a stick of dynamite!

    2. In many locales, you can get the same result by just leaving for a couple of days and making sure there is a prominent sign on the lawn declaring that:

      "This is a gun-free zone."

  5. Ugh, I feel your pain. I will NOT move again; not if I have any say at all in the matter. But if you can possibly afford to have those boxes moved, then you'll be glad you did. You can trust me on this.

    1. We've had estimates of ranging from $4k up to $9k. We're having a couple of places come by to look at what we have and give us an estimate.

One good thing is she's says she's going to either leave a lot of the furniture for the new owners, or drag it to the curb.

I would imagine just getting the contents of the garage moved will cost $4k~$5k.

I'm NOT lugging boxes around. I'm just too old to move any 'big' stuff....

Keep it civil, please....

Gloomy, Gritty, Grey Day

At 1700 local it's as described in the headline; 30*F, 88% RH, completely overcast, snowing like crazy (small flakes, but lots of them)...
