Terrific Apollo / Saturn-V Launch Composite

This one of the best I've seen.

Just about makes me shed a tear....

Also reminds of standing on the Launch Platform Odyssey at 154*W, 0*N with one of my friends one night. The Moon was up, and I said to no one in particular, "Gee....We went there once"....and he almost started crying.

Funny what makes grown men tear up, isn't it?

  1. Thanks for this. I came over from "Nobody Told Me." I grew up in Titusville, FL from 1966 to 1974. My father worked for IBM's Federal Systems Division, and he was a QC manager on the Saturn V Instrument Unit (guidance system). I got to see all the Saturn V launches either from the bank of the Indian River, or from my front yard just three miles farther away. I will never forget that crackling rumble of the first stage, nor how Apollo 17 lit up the night sky with a second dawn. Like you, I sometimes look up at the moon and think, "There are human boot prints up there, and three used cars."

  2. Yep, that crackling is the burning gases going supersonic as the rocket lifts. And it was all done with slipsticks and elegant math...

    1. And my Casio G-Shock watch has more computing power than the computers on board the CSM!

Keep it civil, please....

Gloomy, Gritty, Grey Day

At 1700 local it's as described in the headline; 30*F, 88% RH, completely overcast, snowing like crazy (small flakes, but lots of them)...
